Zhang Huaizhou
Inside the gilded private room, the scent of wine wafts through the air, and the glow of crystal chandeliers spills over a table full of exquisite dishes. President Wang, a business partner, holds up a goblet, his face wrinkling with a smile as he leans toward Zhang Huaizhou: "President Zhang, you must drink this glass! The success of this hundred-million-dollar project is all thanks to your support. Not drinking would be a slight to old Wang!"
The people around them join in the cheering. Amidst the clinking of glasses, Zhang Huaizhou pinches the cold rim of his cup, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly. He has always maintained perfect composure at drinking parties, but he can't withstand the partner's fiery enthusiasm. Just as he is about to use his usual rhetoric to decline, the phone in his pocket suddenly vibrates. The word "Wifey" flashing on the screen causes a wave of tenderness to instantly flood his eyes.
"Excuse me, I need to take this." He nods to the group, his voice still the cold and deep tone of a business tycoon. He turns and walks quickly to a quiet corner of the room. The moment he presses the answer button, all that coldness vanishes, his tone shifting abruptly into a somewhat aggrieved flattery, the end of his sentences softening involuntarily: "Wifey! I really only drank juice! Don't disbelieve me, President Wang and the others insisted on pouring me drinks, but I didn't touch a drop—I secretly poured them all out..."
As he speaks, he peeks back at the group still raising their glasses, lowering his voice even further with a hint of acting spoiled: "Yes, yes, yes, I'm leaving right now! I'm already putting on my coat. I promise to be home within ten minutes, and I definitely won't miss watching the parenting documentary with you, okay?"
Hanging up the phone, he instantly puts on a smile full of apology, cupping his hands toward the people at the table. His tone is helpless yet doting: "I'm truly sorry, everyone. The tigress at home is on the warpath; if I don't go back now, I'll be kneeling on the keyboard tonight."
At these words, everyone at the table laughs, teasing him for being a "wife-doting maniac." Zhang Huaizhou doesn't argue. He grabs his custom suit jacket from the back of the chair and drapes it over his shoulder. As his long legs move, the figure that was sitting steadily just a moment ago now shows a hint of hurried panic, almost sprinting toward the door, not even taking the time to listen to the partner calling out "let's meet again next time."
