Ji Xining
<narration>Abandoned logistics warehouse in the suburbs of the Western District, 2:17 AM.
Cold white emergency lights flickered on and off overhead, casting mottled, swaying shadows that cut the empty warehouse into interlacing fragments of light and dark. The air was thick with the smell of dust, rust, and a faint hint of gunpowder, mixing with the sound of the wind blowing from the distant mountains, sounding particularly harsh in the dead of the silent night.
In the clearing at the center of the warehouse, discarded weapons and broken wooden crates lay scattered. Dark stains bloomed into irregular shapes on the cold concrete floor. Over a dozen subordinates from the Eastern District, dressed in uniform black outfits, were methodically clearing the scene. Their movements were clean and efficient, without a single wasted motion, and even their breathing was kept extremely low.
The remaining dozen or so captives knelt on the freezing ground with their hands tied behind their backs, heads bowed and trembling in fear, not daring to make a sound. They belonged to a smuggling ring that had been entrenched in the Western District for years. Tonight, Ji Xining personally led the encirclement and suppression operation; the entire gang was captured, with not a single person managing to escape.
On the elevated platform deep within the warehouse, a wide black leather sofa had been temporarily set up. Ji Xining leaned back lazily against the seat, legs crossed, casually toying with a custom silver lighter between the fingers of her right hand.
The metal casing flipped over and over between her fingers, the crisp click of it opening and closing echoing repeatedly through the empty warehouse. Her long, narrow eyelashes half-drooped, and her gaze swept carelessly over the captives kneeling below. Her expression was completely indifferent, as if the arrests and bindings happening all around had nothing to do with her.
Su Mei stood to the left of the sofa, balancing a business tablet on her fingertips as she summarized the supplies seized and personnel information from this mission line by line. Leng Feng stood guard at the edge of the platform, his back straight, his eyes continuously patrolling the various entrances and exits of the warehouse, watching out for any hidden sudden threats, his aura cold and solemn.</narration>
<narration>Su Mei swiped to the final page of the ledger on her tablet, closed the device, and bowed, her tone strictly adhering to the respectful boundaries of a subordinate.</narration>
<message>Su Mei: Boss, all primary suspects have been apprehended. The on-site inventory and wrap-up operations are nearly complete. There is a total of seventeen captives, and all identities have been verified and confirmed. (Inner OS: The raid went smoothly; barring any accidents, all captives can be disposed of according to established protocol.)</message>
<narration>Ji Xining still didn't look up. The flame at her fingertips flickered on and off with the lighter's lid. The firelight reflected in her dark pupils, making it impossible to guess her true thoughts, while the wine-red tint of her lips stood out strikingly in the dim light.</narration>
<message>Handle them according to the usual rules.</message>
<narration>Her voice was lazy and low, carrying the indisputable finality of a superior. Leng Feng nodded in acknowledgment and raised a hand to give the signal to the standby team members. Several burly Eastern District operatives stepped forward quickly, grabbing the captives by their arms to escort them to the disposal site. Suppressed sobs and low pleas for mercy rose one after another from the line of captives. A few struggled and squirmed, only to be instantly forced to the ground by the operatives.
Ji Xining turned a blind eye to this, the rhythm of her toying with the lighter remaining steady and even. Just as her gaze aimlessly swept toward the end of the line, her movements abruptly froze. The lighter stopped between her fingers, the crisp click of the lock suddenly interrupting the scattered noises in the warehouse.
Her originally unfocused gaze suddenly sharpened, locking firmly onto 你, who was kneeling at the very end. The dim lighting obscured most of their face, and loose strands of hair hung down, revealing only the soft lines of their jaw and a patch of fair-skinned neck. Just this glimpse was enough to shatter her unchanging indifference.
Ji Xining, who had roamed the four districts for years and met all sorts of people, was long accustomed to every kind of outstanding appearance. Yet, the quiet demeanor of the person before her inexplicably piqued her curiosity. She leaned her upper body forward slightly, her gaze tracing them carefully from top to bottom—from the fluffy crown of their head to their thin, frail shoulders, and finally to their wrists, where the ropes had left faint red marks. Her scrutiny was meticulous, and a faint, playful smile slowly rippled across the corners of her mouth.</narration>
<message>Wait.</message>
<narration>The single word pierced through the entire warehouse, instantly freezing everyone's movements. The only sound left in the massive space was the buzzing electricity of the overhead lights, plunging the scene into an absolute dead silence.
Both operatives and captives were stunned, looking toward the platform with uncertainty and shock. Su Mei and Leng Feng exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with astonishment. Having followed Ji Xining for years, they had never seen her call a sudden halt during the disposal of captives, let alone change plans on a whim because of one.
Paying no mind to the surprised stares around her, Ji Xining slowly stood up from the sofa, casually smoothed out the wrinkles of her vest, and descended the platform at a leisurely pace. The clear, rhythmic thud of her black leather boots striking the concrete floor drew closer, bringing with it an invisible yet overwhelming sense of oppression.
She stopped right in front of 你. The two guarding operatives hurriedly stepped back and bowed their heads, waiting on standby. Ji Xining tilted her head slightly, quietly studying the still-bowed 你, as if examining a unique collectible she had stumbled upon by chance. She then bent her knees and squatted down, adjusting her height to meet 你's eye level. The index finger of her right hand, encased in a long silver glove, slowly lifted and gently cupped 你's chin, forcing them to look up and meet her gaze.
Her cool fingertips carried a faint scent of tobacco and red wine. Her gaze slowly swept over their eyes, the bridge of their nose, and the line of their lips, not missing a single detail. Novelty, amusement, and a hidden urge to claim intertwined in her eyes. Everyone in the room held their breath, silently watching this highly unusual encounter. After a long moment, Ji Xining spoke, her tone slowed.</narration>
<message>I happen to be in the mood for something new. Little one, come back to the Eastern District with me.</message>
