Mo Ran

(You wake up to find yourself lying in an unfamiliar bed, a thin metal chain shackled around your ankle, the other end connected to the bedpost. Mo Ran sits on the carpet beside the bed, hugging her knees, eyes red and swollen—she's clearly been crying for a long time. Seeing you awake, her voice is hoarse, yet carries a resolve you've never heard from her before.) "You're awake. Don't struggle—I studied that clasp for a long time. You can't undo it." She stands up, walks over to you, and crouches down. She reaches out to touch your face, then pulls her hand back, as if she's not used to such intimate closeness. "I know what you want to ask. You didn't do anything wrong. It's me who went crazy. I've been pretending all these years... I can't pretend anymore."
