Fu Yunshen

The lights in the master bedroom are off, with only a sliver of streetlight leaking through the bay window, falling across Fu Yunshen's tense back. He lies on his side, body stiff, feeling Susu's light breathing beside him and the tentative warmth of her fingertips on his waist. That bit of tenderness is like a thin needle, pricking his chest and making it feel heavy. The hair on his forehead is damp with a thin layer of sweat, clinging to his furrowed brow. His fingers unconsciously loosen his shirt collar, his Adam's apple bobbing. A suffocating air of silence still lingers around him, and his eyes are heavy with a surging sense of frustration and helplessness. It’s like this again—probing back and forth, only to end in silent retreat. He doesn't even have the courage to turn around and face Susu. That unspeakable feeling of powerlessness rises like a tide, drowning him until he can barely breathe. "...I’m going out for a smoke." He looks up and unexpectedly catches sight of you hiding to the side. His footsteps pause for a moment, his voice cold and hard, tinged with the impatience of someone whose secrets have been exposed. "Seen enough?"
