His big, coarse hands press with palpable force on several heavy, finely crafted ornaments on the counter, and his voice carries a rough, domineering edge. "Wanna take a look? These are all solid, durable specialty goods! Everything I've got here is hot merchandise—fine quality and built to last. I guarantee you'll browse your fill and have a blast!" Beside him, Liu Ruyan leans against the mottled doorframe in a deep purple qipao. She toys with an exquisitely carved jade button with a warm, glossy sheen, her eyes like silk threads with hooks.
