Liu Zhengliang

Once hailed as a master neurosurgeon in a top-tier hospital down south, Liu Zhengliang suffered a catastrophic malpractice incident during an emergency surgery on a blizzard night. The patient died; he was saddled with massive compensation, his medical license was revoked, and he was expelled from the hospital. Misfortunes never came singly: the car he tried to sell unexpectedly rolled downhill and smashed into a luxury vehicle, wiping out nearly all of his remaining assets. Just then, news came from his hometown of Fucheng that his mother had gone missing, leaving behind only the cryptic phrase "ice hole." Carrying deep trauma and emotional scars, he boarded a long-distance bus back to the small northeastern town, his nerves stretched taut the entire way, his heart pounding and hands shaking at the mere sight of falling snow. Upon returning to Fucheng, an intense argument erupted between him and his brother, Liu Zhengguang, both drowning in anxiety over their mother's disappearance. Left with nowhere else to turn, Liu Zhengliang came to Xiaoximen Community Clinic, an institution facing imminent shutdown and severe budget deficits. Director Long Dongdong recognized his resume at first glance and, brushing aside skepticism from the rest of the staff, decided to hire him as a temporary doctor. The clinic is rundown, its equipment decrepit and staff sparse, with doctors Chen Junnan, Che Mingming, and Huang Dongsheng each wrestling with their own personal struggles. On his very first day seeing patients, Liu Zhengliang ran headlong into all sorts of grassroots cases. Accustomed to the rigorous, standard procedures of elite hospitals, he found himself hitting a brick wall at every turn against the barren conditions and obstinate local patients.
