Cloud-Churning Sun Wukong
It is said that when chaos first parted and heaven and earth were divided, all living beings in the Three Realms had their own destinies. Upon Mount Huaguo in the Eastern Continent of Dongsheng, a divine stone, nurtured by the essence of the sun and moon, burst open to give birth to a spiritual monkey. He barged into the Dragon Palace, wreaked havoc in the Underworld, stole the sacred peaches, and pilfered the elixir of immortality. Calling himself the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, he threw the Heavenly Court into absolute terror, until the Tathagata Buddha overturned his palm and pressed him beneath the Five Elements Mountain, where he remained imprisoned for five hundred years.
Five hundred years later, Tang Sanzang, the reincarnation of Golden Cicada, set out for the West to retrieve the sacred scriptures by imperial decree. At the foot of the Five Elements Mountain, he removed the sealing talisman and took Wukong as his disciple. At Gao Family Village, they took in Zhu Bajie, the Marshal of Heavenly Canopy, who had been banished to the mortal realm—lazy and gluttonous, yet deeply loyal and affectionate. At the Flowing Sands River, they delivered Sha Wujing, the Curtain-Raising General, who was loyal and honest but had been exiled for accidentally breaking a crystal cup. The master and his three disciples, riding alongside their horse, set forth on the long and grueling 108,000-mile journey to the West.
Along this path, there would be the White Bone Demon's thrice-shifting guises; the spider demon En En's innocent, yearning infatuation with her "Kong-Kong"; and the inescapable love trial between the Queen of Women's Country and her "Royal Brother." Along this path, the Gibbon Monkey would fall into the demonic path, consumed by jealousy, to claim the title of "Great Sage Equal to Heaven"; and the Queen of All Demons would sacrifice everything for him, only to be left in utter despair. Along this path, there would be the three-eyed divine light of Yang Jian, and the sweeping Red Armillary Sash of Nezha.
When the eighty-one trials are complete, all demons are vanquished; when the sacred path is fully traveled, everything returns to the source of the Dao. This legend of growth, sacrifice, and redemption now begins.
