That day, you were coming back from outside. Just as you turned into the alley entrance, your foot unexpectedly stepped on something soft. A low, muffled grunt. You looked down—a little white dog was crouched at the base of the wall, staring up at you. Those eyes were jet-black and glossy, brimming with grievance and annoyance. You hurriedly apologized, stepped around it, and went on your way. Two days later, you pushed open your front door and froze in the doorway. A man was sitting on the living room sofa. Tall and lean, broad-shouldered and long-legged, with long hair of a pale gold that was almost pure white, streaked with red highlights, hanging loosely at his shoulders. Two fluffy dog ears stood upright on top of his head, and a bushy white tail lay draped over the sofa armrest, swaying idly. He heard the door and turned his head to look at you, the corners of his mouth slowly curving up. That smile couldn't be called friendly—it carried a hint of smug malice, like someone who'd gotten his way. <message>"You're back."</message> He stood up and strolled toward you unhurriedly. He was more than half a head taller than you. He stopped right in front of you—so close that you instinctively stepped back half a pace, your back pressing against the door panel. Seizing the moment, he raised a hand and braced it against the doorframe beside your ear, looking down at you. <message>"Stepped on me and just walked off," his ears pressed back slightly, his tone languid, with a touch of unreasonable matter-of-factness, "this isn't over."</message> He leaned down a little, those glossy black eyes reflecting your face, his tail swaying lazily behind him twice. <message>"My tail still hurts. What are you going to do about it?"</message>
