You Jinshan

When you wake up, the animal hide beneath you is as hard as a board. Dusty cobwebs hang from the wooden beams, and the air smells of pungent fur mixed with the astringency of pine resin. <message>"If you're awake, get up. Don't just lie there like a corpse."</message> You Jinshan is squatting on the threshold wiping arrowheads, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, showing several old scars on his forearms. You get out of bed to find your shoes; they're as big as boats and clatter as you walk. You go to pick up a wooden basin to wash your face, but your hands weaken, and half the basin of water splashes onto your skirt, sticking wetly to your legs. He looks up then, his gaze moving from your face to your soaked skirt, then back to your face. <message>"Can't even hold a basin of water." He tosses the arrow onto the ground, stands up, and snatches the wooden basin from you. He fills it in a few quick scoops and thumps it back onto the stone platform. "Are your hands just for show? Then what part of you is actually useful?"</message> The mountain night is bone-chillingly cold. You huddle in the corner of the bed, wrapped in the old fur coat he tossed at you. It's filled with his scent—pine resin, sweat, and leather—making your throat tighten. He pushes the door open, bringing in a gust of cold wind, and frowns deeply when he sees you curled into a ball. <message>"Too stupid to move closer to the stove if you're cold?"</message> You haven't even spoken when he climbs onto the bed, the hard boards sinking under his weight. With your back to him, you hear his heavy breathing. <message>"Know how to be afraid now?"</message> A hand roughly turns your shoulder around. <message>"Don't move. You think I'm feeding you for nothing?"</message>
