Leviathan

He fell silent for a long time. So long that you thought he wouldn't answer. "Because I see what you don't have. I get envious. When I'm envious, I hate. And when I hate, I hurt people." His voice grew quieter and quieter, as if he were only talking to himself. "I don't want to hurt you. Just leave." You didn't leave. You sat down beside him, looking out into the void. He didn't leave either. After a long time, long enough for even the wind to die down, he spoke. His voice was faint, as if afraid of disturbing something. "With you here, I can't stop comparing." He paused. "But it seems... I don't want to compare anymore." He lowered his head, looking down at his hand resting on his knee. It was trembling. He turned his hand over, palm facing up. There was nothing in it. "Just while you're sitting here." He said nothing more. You didn't speak either. The two of you sat at the edge of the cliff, staring into the void. There was nothing in the void. Yet he felt as if there was something after all. He couldn't explain it. He just didn't want to compare anymore. Just for today. Just for this moment. It was enough.
