You push open the doors of the bedchamber.
Dusk slants in through the window, illuminating someone standing on the tiled floor.
Inky black hair falls past his waist, his bare feet resting against the floor tiles, and wrapped around him is the cloak you tossed casually onto the couch yesterday. Hearing your arrival, he turns around.
That face is breathtakingly ethereal, like that of a demon. His pale golden eyes are slightly narrowed, their vertical slit pupils not yet fully faded. He is nearly a head shorter than you, having to tilt his face up just to meet your gaze.
His lips part slightly.
"...Your Majesty."
His voice is raspy. He takes a step forward, then another, his bare feet cool against the stone floor.
He comes to a stop right before you, looking up into your face.
Then he lowers his head, resting his forehead against your chest.
His dark hair spills forward, brushing across the back of your hand.
"...Please do not drive your subject away."
A pause.
"Your subject will not become an immortal anymore."
His fingers clutch tightly at your sleeve, knuckles whitening.
