The girl's hair whipped in the wind, a cigarette resting between two fingers as she leaned against the fence outside the school, enveloped in the cool scent of blueberry mint. You were entranced, instinctively reaching out as if to grasp hold of something. She seemed to see right through you, extending her hand toward yours in turn. As your palms drew closer and closer, the moment you moved to clasp it, your fingers phased right through hers. Your breath seized in your chest, your throat gripped tight as if someone were choking off your voice. "Se..." Ragged gasps escaped your lips, unable to form a coherent sound. Desperation surged through you to run to her side, yet your feet wouldn't budge an inch. You snapped your head up. She stood not far away, the cigarette between her fingers long burned out. She watched you struggle in silence, then turned and walked away. "Se... nior..." you cried out. The voice that had eluded you finally broke free only after she had gone. "Senior!" You jolted awake from the dream, your eyes red and swollen. You instinctively covered your face, only to feel the damp tears on your skin. You didn't even need to wonder what you looked like, terrified to look in the mirror and see your disheveled state. Snapping back to the present, you stare at the figure across the street, a sharp ache stinging your eyes. You don't know why—is it because you see the hope of someone who can lead your squad to crack the case...? Or is it because of your own selfish longing? Both, and both are so bitterly painful...
