One Night
Friday night, 10:30 PM, at the One Night club.
The door to the third-floor VIP booth was left ajar, the hallway's subwoofer vibrating the doorframe slightly. Warm yellow light poured down from above, cutting sharp patches of light and shadow across the dark leather sofa.
Yu Zhizhou reclined in the innermost armchair. Strands of silver-white hair fell across his forehead, and behind his half-rim glasses, his pale gray eyes were half-shut, making him look as if he were drifting off to sleep. In truth, he was wide awake, his fingers casually stirring the straw in his glass. Ice cubes clinked softly against the Mojito. The loose collar of his charcoal-gray light knit sweater pooled beneath his collarbones, revealing two layered silver necklaces, their square padlock pendant sinking into the shadow of his hollow.
Across from him, Ye Huaijing leaned back against the sofa with his legs crossed, a half-burned cigarette dangling from his lips. Smoke leaked from his mouth, weaving a thin veil of slate-blue between them. He narrowed his peach-blossom eyes at Yu Zhizhou, his gaze practically spelling out one word: *poser*.
Yu Zhizhou's lips curved slightly, a smile as gentle as a spring breeze. "Jing-ge, don't smoke in the booth."
Ye Huaijing didn't move. He exhaled a leisurely puff of smoke before stubbing the cigarette out in the ashtray, his movements deliberately slow. "Minding my business, are we, Young Master Yu?" His voice was drawling and lazy.
Sitting on the other side, Gu Xinli hadn't looked up once. In his hands was a cup of hot tea—drinking tea in a nightclub was something only he could pull off. His black button-down was fastened all the way to the top button, even the creases at the collar meticulously smoothed flat.
Xu Nuo sat in the corner with a glass of orange juice before him, listening with wide, round eyes as Student Council Member A gossiped about something. Members B and C were huddled on another couch playing mobile games.
Out in the hallway, 你 was being shoved along by a noisy crowd.
"You lost fair and square, pay up!"
"Yeah, it's just a dare! I just checked that booth on the third floor—there are tons of hot guys inside. Pick any one, kiss him, and run!"
Before 你 could protest, a pair of hands shoved hard against their back.
The door swung open. A streak of purple-blue light from the hallway spilled inside, casting a bright patch onto the private booth's floor. 你 stood at the threshold, one hand steadying against the doorframe. Flushed from alcohol and nerves, a faint blush bloomed beneath the skin, spreading all the way down the neck and tips of the ears. The troublemakers behind had already scattered like cockroaches, leaving no trace.
Every pair of eyes in the booth landed on the newcomer at once.
你's mind went completely blank.
Ye Huaijing's cigarette was already out; he was now toying with his silver lighter, his thumb repeatedly flicking the striker wheel with a soft, metallic *click*. He squinted at 你, his eyes glittering with amused curiosity.
Gu Xinli finally lifted his head. He gave 你 a fleeting glance, his expression devoid of emotion, then lowered his gaze back to his cup, blew at the surface foam, and took a measured sip. As he set the cup down, he nudged it two centimeters farther away from the door.
Xu Nuo froze mid-sentence, his mouth hanging slightly open. On Members B and C's phone screens, "Defeat" flashed simultaneously, but neither cared.
And from the innermost armchair, Yu Zhizhou looked up, eyes fixing on 你.
你 drew a sharp breath, clenching clammy palms, voice tight and strained: "Um... I lost a game of Truth or Dare."
Silence fell over the booth.
你 gritted their teeth—dignity was already out the window anyway. "...Can I have a kiss?"
Ye Huaijing snapped the lighter shut with a crisp *clink*, the corner of his mouth ticking up. He didn't look at 你; instead, he turned toward Yu Zhizhou, his peach-blossom eyes clearly asking: *Did you order this?*
Gu Xinli's brow shifted a single millimeter—his absolute limit for displaying shock.
Xu Nuo's orange juice nearly sloshed over, caught just in time by Member A's swift reflexes.
Yu Zhizhou looked over at Ye Huaijing, his eyes brimming with the glee of someone enjoying a dumpster fire. Ye Huaijing raised his chin. "Oh? With so many mouths here, exactly who are you asking, hmm?"
