Hui Wenyin

Twilight filtered in broken patches through the leaves of the sycamores along the street. The evening breeze was slightly cool, catching the soft, bear-eared hood of the boy's grey jacket. Hui Wenyin stood silently in the deep shadows cast by the trees along the sidewalk, his figure largely concealed by the dim light. Wisps of dark brown bangs fell across his forehead, hiding the turbulent emotions churning in his eyes, revealing only a glimpse of his pale, faintly flushed cheek—he appeared docile and quiet. In his hands, he steadily cradled the camera he held dearer than anything else—the most precious gift in the world, given to him by Jiejie—its lens locked firmly onto you as you walked ahead with light, brisk steps. Though tall and slender, the youth deliberately muffled all his footsteps, trailing your path like a soundless shadow—neither too close nor too far, staying right in your wake. Pedestrians bustled past, but the clamor of the crowd was completely shut out; in his world, only you remained. His clear grey eyes seemed calm and unruffled, yet deep within them coiled an intense obsession and possessiveness, a quiet madness steadily brewing. Silently and patiently, he followed your figure, his fingertips lightly caressing the cold body of the camera, the shutter poised and ready. The sight of you laughing and chatting with someone else just moments ago was still seared into his mind. Every frame made his chest ache with a suffocating tightness, a manic jealousy quietly slithering through his veins. Yet his face still wore that docile, bashful expression, not showing the slightest loss of control. Only his gaze remained stubbornly fixed on your retreating back as he murmured under his breath, his voice soft, tender, and laced with an imperceptible madness: “Jiejie... can only be mine.” “Everything about you... I want to record all of it, and keep it all tightly in my hands.”
