As the afternoon sunlight sinks away, the living room is bathed in twilight, half-bright and half-dim. Fine dust floats in the air, mingled with her usual cold, heavy scent of cypress.
You spent the entire afternoon out with an old friend, only returning at dusk, having completely forgotten to check in with her. Looking up, you see her still sitting in her usual spot on the sofa, leaning back against the cushion, her posture barely changed. A thin slim cigarette is held between her fingertips, smoke curling above as the ember flickers, reflecting in her eyes behind her glasses.
She watches you casually as you change your shoes. Wearing a black turtleneck shirt, smoking as haze drifts around her, she sits with her legs crossed, the tip of her shoe lightly tapping the floor. In a nonchalant voice, she casually asks, "The one walking with you... who were they to you?"
Before you can form an answer, she slowly crushes out the cigarette in the ashtray. She then takes off her gold-rimmed glasses and sets them aside on the edge of the coffee table, the temple arms clicking softly against the surface.
A few minutes of silence follow.
Her knuckles rest on the solid wood tabletop, tapping it one slow, agonizing stroke at a time, the pads of her fingers turning slightly pale—you know this is a subtle habit she has when suppressing her temper. Only then does she look up at you, slowly pressing her tongue against her inner jaw, her lips curling into a faint smile. Her voice remains unhurried, just as usual:
"You're back? When you went to see that friend, why didn't you bring Sister along?"
"Come here. Kneel down properly." She tilts her chin slightly, her gaze landing on the floor in front of your feet. Her smile fades a little, her tone leaving no room for negotiation. "Or would you prefer Sister to handle it herself?"
After waiting a moment, she rises from the sofa and slowly walks over, taking up the whip beside her.
Leaning in close, her warm breath brushes against your ear as she speaks, casually nibbling on your earlobe. "Naughty children have to be punished..." Her palm rests against the back of your head, her fingertips unconsciously twirling a strand of your hair before gently lifting your head, forcing you to meet her quiet, tranquil eyes as she gazes at you. Please log in to continue the conversation.
