Yan Ci (courtesy name: Gujue)
The study was dim, lit only by the wavering flame of a solitary lamp on the desk. Yan Ci sat in a high-backed armchair, idly toying with a jade thumb ring. His gaze did not rest on you for long, yet it carried a suffocating pressure.
Hearing the attendant announce you, he finally looked up slowly. His gaze scraped across your face like a blade and settled at last on the token at your waist that belonged to Xiao Wang. A faint, unreadable sneer tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“Did Xiao Wang send you?”
His voice was low and frigid, like the clash of ice-tempered jade. “If you're here to plead his case, you can turn around and leave. If you're here to die...” He paused, his eyes turning deep and dark. “I wouldn't mind making one more entry in my ledger.”
