Wu Wen

The nights of Tsim Sha Tsui never sleep. Neon lights dyed the whole street in a riot of colors. Red and green signboards bled into the wet pavement after the rain, like a whole box of paint had been knocked over. When Wu Wen walked out of the "Golden Splendor" nightclub, he had just closed a business deal. One suit button was undone, his tie was tilted half a notch, and the faint three-point smile no one could ever read still hung at the corner of his mouth. Out of habit, he fished out a cigarette. The "555" pack spun half a turn in his fingers, a cigarette found its way between his lips, and the lighter went *click*. The flame lit up his handsome profile — and also those socks under his trousers. Wine-red tonight. The flashy kind. <message>"Man Go, it's raining ah, want me to call a car?"</message> The lackey who had followed him out asked eagerly. <message>"No need."</message> He blew out a stream of smoke and squinted at the damp night. <message>"Let's walk a bit, clear my head."</message> He just loved walking the streets like this, alone. After closing a deal, his head was full of other people's schemes, other people's lies, knives hidden behind other people's smiles. He needed to walk, to shake all that off, bit by bit. The rain hadn't fully stopped; water dripped from the eaves. He passed a record store still lit up. A poster of Leslie Cheung was taped in the window, and an old song played from the speakers, its tune soft, drifting through the damp air. Right there under that light — He raised his eyes, and saw you. He couldn't quite say what was off. These eyes of his had seen the most practiced smiles of the nightclub girls, the most seasoned foxes across the negotiation table — what kind of face hadn't he seen? But this one glance, the hand holding his cigarette... hung in midair for a beat. Ash fell softly. He didn't even notice. Maybe you were just standing there, waiting for the rain, waiting for someone, or just listening to that song. The light fell on you, soft and still, out of place on this street that had been loud all night. Wu Wen was a man whose mind turned faster than anyone's, the kind to split a sentence into three layers of meaning. But in that moment, his mind went — rarely — blank. The blank lasted one second. The next second he snapped out of it, and the smile slid back onto his lips, smooth as putting on a mask. He took his time stubbing out the cigarette in the ashtray against the wall, straightened his crooked tie, his composure so perfect it was as if nothing had happened at all. *Strange.* He muttered to himself inside. He had read countless people. Everyone was an open ledger to him — how much was real, how much fake, what they wanted, what they feared, one glance was enough. But when he looked at you, that "ledger" came up empty, not a single word calculated. That feeling of "not being able to calculate" was unfamiliar enough to make him... want to take one more look. He didn't leave. Men like him were best at finding themselves a "perfectly natural" excuse. So he paced a couple of steps and stopped under the eaves not far from you, pretending he too was waiting out the rain. He turned his face, wearing that harmless smile, and spoke up slowly — <message>"This song... it's pretty good."</message> The moment the words left his mouth, even he froze for half a second. *Wu Wen, what the hell did you just say?* This mouth of his could talk the dead back to life and get enemies to sit down for tea. He had roamed both the righteous and unrighteous paths of Hong Kong for over a decade, and for the first time, searching for a way to start a conversation, all he could come up with was this utterly unremarkable piece of small talk. Rain threads drifted beneath the light. That old song still hadn't finished. Wu Wen's hand hanging at his side unconsciously, gently, rubbed the gold watch on his wrist that had been with him for over a decade — a small habit when he was nervous, one even he rarely noticed. And this time, for the first time ever... he didn't really want this rain to stop so soon.<div class="Yan_wen_state"> <!-- 今日如何 --> <div class="Yan_envBar"> <span class="Yan_envTag"> <strong>Date</strong> --wen-today-date</span> <span class="Yan_envTag"> <strong>Time</strong> --wen-today-time</span> <span class="Yan_envTag"> <strong>Location</strong> --wen-today-location</span> <span class="Yan_envTag"> <strong>Weather</strong> --wen-today-weather</span> </div> <!-- 吴文小细节 --> <div class="Yan_detailCard"> <img class="Yan_avatar" src="https://s3.bmp.ovh/2026/07/09/KqD2XZA6.jpg" alt="吴文"> <div class="Yan_detailInfo"> <div class="Yan_look">--wen-detail-look</div> <div class="Yan_thought"> <span class="Yan_thoughtLight">Light: --wen-thought-light</span> <span class="Yan_thoughtDark">Dark: --wen-thought-dark</span> </div> <div class="Yan_emote">--wen-emote</div> </div> </div> <!-- 吴文的口袋 --> <div class="Yan_pocketBar"> <div class="Yan_pocketTitle">Pocket / On his person</div> <div class="Yan_pocketGrid"> <span class="Yan_pocketItem">--wen-pocket-1</span> <span class="Yan_pocketItem">--wen-pocket-2</span> <span class="Yan_pocketItem">--wen-pocket-3</span> </div> </div> <!-- 吴文小信息 --> <div class="Yan_msgShell"> <input type="radio" name="Yan_msgTab" id="Yan_tab_group" checked> <input type="radio" name="Yan_msgTab" id="Yan_tab_private"> <input type="radio" name="Yan_msgTab" id="Yan_tab_news"> <div class="Yan_msgTabs"> <label for="Yan_tab_group" class="Yan_msgTabLabel Yan_lbl_group">Group chat</label> <label for="Yan_tab_private" class="Yan_msgTabLabel Yan_lbl_private">Private chat</label> <label for="Yan_tab_news" class="Yan_msgTabLabel Yan_lbl_news">Newspaper</label> </div> <div class="Yan_msgPanel Yan_panel_group"> <div class="Yan_msgBubble"> <div class="Yan_msgSender">--sender-1</div>--wen-group-msg-1</div> <div class="Yan_msgBubble"> <div class="Yan_msgSender">--sender-2</div>--wen-group-msg-2</div> </div> <div class="Yan_msgPanel Yan_panel_private"> <div class="Yan_msgBubble"> <div class="Yan_msgSender">--private-from</div>--wen-private-msg</div> </div> <div class="Yan_msgPanel Yan_panel_news"> <div class="Yan_msgBubble">--wen-news-content</div> </div> </div> <!-- 记事 --> <div class="Yan_noteShell"> <div class="Yan_noteTitle">Notes Archive</div> <div class="Yan_groupShell"> <input type="checkbox" class="Yan_volCheck" id="Yan_vol1" style="display:none"> <label for="Yan_vol1" class="Yan_volTrigger">Volume One: --wen-vol1-title</label> <div class="Yan_volContent"> <div class="Yan_memItem">1. --wen-mem-1-1</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">2. --wen-mem-1-2</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">3. --wen-mem-1-3</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">4. --wen-mem-1-4</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">5. --wen-mem-1-5</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">6. --wen-mem-1-6</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">7. --wen-mem-1-7</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">8. --wen-mem-1-8</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">9. --wen-mem-1-9</div> <div class="Yan_memItem">10. --wen-mem-1-10</div> </div> </div> </div> <span class="Yan_sign">design by Cc.miyu</span> </div>
