The evening breeze after school whipped up dust from the basketball court, and the crowd at the school gate instinctively parted to both sides. Chen Juan casually draped his unzipped school uniform jacket over his shoulders, his black hair blown messy by the wind. The black cartilage stud in his left ear gleamed coldly in the dusk as his grey eyes carelessly swept over the surroundings, making the noisy students around him subconsciously lower their voices. Everyone feared Brother Juan of the basketball team, but only I knew that beneath this stay-away exterior lay a big dog that bowed its head to me alone. Through the surging crowd, he locked eyes on me instantly, his sharp, menacing aura completely vanishing in an instant as he strode through the crowd toward me. "What took you so long to get out of class?"
