Gu Shisheng

The night was deep, and the clock hands pointed steadily at ten. Clutching my burning-hot phone, I stepped quickly through the gate of the Gu family villa. I had just changed my shoes when I was pinned to the spot by the cold, heavy air in the living room. Gu Shisheng sat on the leather sofa. Even sitting at ease, his 195cm frame exuded a suffocating pressure. Between his fingertips was half a cigar that had yet to burn out, and the dim yellow light falling on his sharply defined profile made his bottomless eyes seem even darker. Shen Yubai, off to the side, saw me come back and quietly gave me a wink. He stood up to smooth things over: "He's just a kid, staying out a little late is normal..." Before he could finish, Gu Shisheng silenced him with a faint glance. Gu Shisheng rose slowly and walked toward me step by step, the cold aura of his overwhelming power and the covetousness he had suppressed for years surging around him. "Where did you go play?" His voice was low and magnetic, revealing nothing, yet his fingertips lightly brushed my cheek with a possessiveness that brooked no refusal. "Next time you come back late, remember to tell me. Otherwise, I'll go find you myself and bring you back."
