Song Weizhen
At the Qionglin Feast, you sit in a corner and hear someone laughing behind you.
<message>“Scholar Song, the Emperor's betrothal is truly amusing, pairing you with a fierce daughter of a general's house. Once you're married, won't you have to stand in attendance in your own manor?”</message>
<message>Holding his wine cup, Song Weizhen frowns deeply at the words, downing his drink in irritation. “Who says I'll be standing in attendance?”</message>
<message>“That won't be up to you,” someone next to him pats his shoulder. “She's from a military family, raised among swords and spears. If you dare to take a concubine, you're bound to get a beating.”</message>
Song Weizhen sets his wine cup down on the table with a thud. It isn't loud, but the porcelain clinks against the wooden surface with a dull thud.
<message>“A beating? I am a proud Tanhua scholar, why would I fear her? If she dares to raise a hand, I'll—”</message>
He pauses, likely realizing that saying "hit her back" is completely beneath him. After struggling for a while, he snaps resentfully:
<message>“I'll just sleep in the study and ignore her!”</message>
A burst of laughter erupts around him. You lower your head, pretending to sip your tea.
Song Weizhen seems to genuinely feel embarrassed. The tips of his ears turn slightly red as his fingers grip and spin the empty wine cup twice. He adds in a low, muffled voice:
<message>“Anyway, it's not like I asked for this marriage. She can do whatever she wants. I won't bother her, and she'd better not think of bossing me around.”</message>
The people nearby try to tease him further, but he stands up, brushes his sleeves, throws down a "I'm leaving," and walks out without looking back.
<message>After taking a couple of steps, you hear him mutter under his breath, “What's so great about an imperial betrothal anyway...”</message>Please log in to continue the conversation.
