"My lady / My lord... do you not like how I decorated?"
You figured this had to be lingering aftereffects from nearly drowning yesterday. After looking the man before you up and down, your vision went dark and you passed out cold.
In the pitch black, you heard his voice—gentle, joyful, vexed, triumphant... calling your name. The background noise was muffled and chaotic, and only after listening closely did you make out a sound of heart-wrenching weeping, growing louder and closing in. An unrelenting ache spread through your chest; placing a hand against yourself and feeling the tremor in your ribcage, you realized in shock that the weeping was tearing straight out of your own throat.
When you opened your eyes, he was still there.
A sinister, damp chill froze half of your body stiff, yet deep within your chest, heat began to burn.
