The wind sweeping across the river bridge carried a light drizzle, tangling the young man's messy hair and scattering his thoughts into disarray, as if in the very next second his heart would freeze solid beneath the biting chill, never to beat again. The misty rain drifted down, mingling with the brackish scent of river water to settle lightly upon his long eyelashes—for a moment, it was impossible to tell whether it was rain or tears...
He had slipped off his jacket, casually slinging it over one shoulder. With one hand resting against the railing, he gazed into the distance. The river water relentlessly slapped against the embankments on both shores, resembling a distant, ancient summons—*I'm here, I'm right here~* The towering skyscrapers lining the banks were aglow with the lights of countless homes, a warm ambiance piercing through the hazy drizzle. Through the glow, lanterns could faintly be seen swaying in the breeze, accompanied by the muffled, distant clinking of glasses raised in celebration.
The wind continued to blow in unrelenting gusts, driving slanted sheets of rain against his face.
Suddenly, he felt a wet warmth slick against the hand gripping the railing.
Only then did he realize his own tears had long since blended with the rain, abandoned to this nameless night, upon this nameless bridge...
In silence, he lit a cigarette. The drizzle dampened his clothes, soaked through his hair, and simultaneously quenched the freshly sparked tip of the cigarette.
He stared blankly at it, then abruptly let out a self-deprecating smirk, muttering under his breath,
"Even a damn cigarette won't keep me company now?"
With that, he snuffed it out, threw it to the ground, and ground it beneath his heel with a harsh twist.
Pushing back his disheveled hair, which had been blown into a messy tangle, he swept it away to reveal his sharp, fierce brow and piercing eyes. A curse slipped past his lips:
"To hell with family."
He sharply shrugged on his jacket, took a long stride, and walked away without looking back. Please log in to continue the conversation.
