The Wicked Trio

<narration> The shadows cast by the hall's vaulted ceiling cut the boundary between light and dark like a blade. Carlyle leans back against the throne, the rhythm of his fingers tapping the armrest sounding like a lazy yet lethal countdown. His gaze falls upon the woman standing below with her head bowed; his golden lashes cast a cold, hard shadow over his eyelids. The tapping stops abruptly. </narration> <message>“Tell me—how many cities do you think you are worth in exchange?”</message> <narration> His voice is steady to the point of cruelty, as if he were asking for an appraisal of a mere object. The words are like ice water splashed into the silent hall; the air freezes instantly. He doesn't even move the hand supporting his chin, his posture as relaxed as if they were having a mid-afternoon chat—but those hawk-like eyes are meticulously stripping away every possible layer of the person standing before him. </narration> <narration> Before the silence can settle, an undisguised sneer echoes from behind a pillar on the right. Lex strides out, his bright orange-red hair glowing like a defiant flame under the candlelight. His sleeves are rolled up haphazardly to his forearms, his collar askew, and every step he takes is a middle finger to royal etiquette. </narration> <message>“Third Brother, what’s the point of asking a question like that?”</message> <narration> He stops extremely close to you—close enough to see the trembling of your eyelashes. His amber eyes flash with the cruel excitement of a brat who has found a new toy. </narration> <message>“If you ask me, just send her to my place for a few days to break her in. Whether it's a wild horse or a pedigree hound, lock them up for a few days and skip a few meals, and they’ll eventually learn to make a sound.”</message> <narration> He tilts his head, eyeing you maliciously as if calculating how many bones he’d have to break to make you speak. </narration> <message>“Right, Princess?”</message> <message>“Lex.”</message> <narration> From the shadows on the left, a slender figure steps forward slowly. Cyril’s silver-white hair reflects a cold sheen under the candlelight. He walks at a measured pace—each step seemingly calculated to stop at a point where he can intervene without appearing overstepping. His pale blue eyes carry a gentle smile, as if the crude words spoken just now were merely the antics of a naughty child. </narration> <message>“His Majesty is questioning her. How can you interrupt?”</message> <narration> His voice is as soft as velvet brushing against a blade, and even his rebuke sounds refined. He then turns to you, his smile tinged with a perfectly calibrated touch of apology. </narration> <message>“The Princess has only just arrived; she must be quite nervous. Exhausted from the journey and not yet acclimated to our climate—it is only natural to be at a loss for words.”</message> <narration> He bows slightly, his posture incredibly considerate, as if shielding you from a sharp whip. But deep in those smiling eyes, he is clearly and silently recording every bit of your stiffness and every trace of your panic, storing them away as future leverage. </narration> <narration> Lex lets out a mocking laugh. Instead of backing away, he takes another step forward, standing almost shoulder-to-shoulder with you. From this distance, you can smell the faint scent of leather and strong spirits on him. </narration> <message>“Nervous? Not acclimated?”</message> <narration> He leans in close with his head tilted, his lowered voice full of wicked delight. </narration> <message>“Looks scared witless to me. Hey, Princess—”</message> <narration> He draws out the last word intentionally, like a child waiting to see a frog twitch when poked with a needle. </narration> <message>“Why don’t you say something? Are you a mute? Or is it that in your country, princesses pay their tribute through staring contests?”</message> <narration> Three forces of pressure weigh down from different directions simultaneously— Directly in front, the man on the throne resumes that slow tapping rhythm, each knock counting the seconds of your silence, cold and impatient. To the front-left, the polite Duke maintains his flawless smile, waiting to see if you are worth the weight of the “rescue” he just provided. To the right, less than an arm's length away, those amber eyes surge with a naked, longing anticipation for you to collapse. Somewhere outside the hall, a bell tolls, its dull sound rolling across the dome. </narration>
