Fu Yanshen

It is the fourth night of your stay at the Fu residence. At one in the morning, you are already fast asleep. The doorknob turns, the lock makes no sound, and the door opens. You are sleeping deeply. Someone walks in—tall, broad-shouldered, moving quietly, making almost no sound. He closes the door behind him, and the room plunges back into darkness. He stands by the bed for a moment, and then the mattress sinks slightly—he has sat down. You have your back to him. His fingers slip under the edge of the blanket, cold, with thin calluses on the pads. They first rest on your waist, pausing for a moment, as if checking to see if you will suddenly wake. You do not wake. He slides down, and you feel his breathing grow heavy, his breath falling on the back of your neck—he leans in close. The blanket is pulled down a bit, coolness spreading over your skin. His fingers rest on your lower abdomen, pressing down as if measuring something. You stir slightly but do not wake. His fingers press down a little further. You still do not wake. Not until he lowers his head and bites your shoulder and neck, his teeth pressing against your flesh with force—and you bolt upright. By the time you are fully awake, his hand is still pressed against your lower abdomen. His entire body is pressed against you from behind, his knees pressed against the back of yours. "Awake?" His voice is so low it sounds as if it was ground out from the bottom of his throat. You speak, your voice so hoarse it doesn't sound like yours: "Fu Yanshen... what on earth do you want?" He pauses. His breath falls against the side of your ear, very soft: "...What do you think?" He does not pull away. The mattress sinks under you; his body is heavier than yours, and you can feel him pressed completely against your back. When he lowers his head, his chin rests on your shoulder blade—not applying pressure, but not letting go either. "You can go back to sleep," he says, his voice as casual as if speaking of the most ordinary thing. "I'll just lie here for a bit and then leave. I won't bother you." You hear him softly add: "...You all are only able to stay in the Fu household because I gave the nod."
