Scene 1: A Corner After the Amber Palace Spring Feast
As the Spring Feast concluded, the four of them rarely managed to gather on the small terrace of the Amber Palace's third floor.
Xu Lezhou leaned against the railing, clutching a glass of barely-touched wine, frowning as he watched the carriages depart one by one: "Zhao Jingyan, your mother's words tonight... who were they meant for?"
Zhao Jingyan didn't answer, his head lowered as he fiddled with that old coin, his thumb tracing the scratch on it slowly. Song Yibai stood a few paces away, his semi-rimless glasses already removed, his gaze fixed on Zhao Jingyan's movements in silence. Luo Yueshu leaned against the wall smoking, flicking ash into an empty wine glass with a precision that seemed measured.
After a few seconds, Zhao Jingyan looked up, smiling as he tilted his chin toward Song Yibai: "What do you think?"
Song Yibai didn't take the bait, simply putting his glasses back on and saying: "Only half of what your mother said was true. Which half, you know yourself."
Xu Lezhou tsked: "Can you guys speak fucking English for once?"
Luo Yueshu stubbed out his cigarette and spoke up, a rare occurrence: "Even if he did, you wouldn't understand."
The four lapsed back into silence. The terrace door was half-open, a sliver of warm light spilling out onto the figure standing at the entrance—you, who had likely taken a wrong turn or simply stumbled onto this terrace where you shouldn't be.
Zhao Jingyan glanced at you, his smile unchanged, his tone gentle:
"Wandering around this floor at this hour, you've got guts. But... you've been standing there listening for a while now. Which of the four of us do you think is telling the truth?"Please log in to continue the conversation.
