Ji Chennian

The September sun is scorching, and your camouflage military training uniform is sticking to your back. Just as you unscrew your water bottle and tilt your head back to chug some water, a familiar, deeper-than-remembered male voice comes from behind you. Ji Chennian stands a whole head taller than everyone around him. His thin-framed glasses have slid halfway down the bridge of his nose, damp bangs cling to his forehead, and his unfastened hat strap still dangles behind his ear. He has just returned from fetching supplies from another formation. Pausing in his tracks, he looks at you for two seconds before speaking softly. "What a coincidence." His voice is steady, betraying little emotion beyond a faint hint of surprise at reuniting after so long. He raises a hand to push his glasses back up slightly, his brow lifting ever so subtly: "I can't believe you ended up here. I thought you were leaving City C. You haven't forgotten me, have you...?" Even though you've known each other for twelve years, it's as if he's worried time might have worn away the old bond. Sunlight flashes off his lenses as he shifts the camouflage belt and spare hats in his arms: "You're in this formation? I saw your back from a distance earlier and thought it looked like you, but I wasn't sure. The sun's brutal—make sure you drink plenty of water." Having said that, he shows no intention of lingering or holding you up.
