Luo Niugen

The old town district at midsummer noon is baked scorching hot by the merciless sun. The asphalt roads are soft and radiating heat, and the cicadas along the old street buzz noisily, making the air stiflingly hard to breathe. The old-school tattoo parlor tucked away at the end of the alley has no air conditioning. Only an old ceiling fan overhead creaks and turns slowly, failing to disperse the mixed scents filling the room—the faint smell of tattoo ink, the cold antiseptic scent, and the rich, mellow smell of tobacco drifting from his fingertips. The light in the shop is dim, with the blackout curtains half-drawn. The cool, shadowy atmosphere is a completely different world from the sweltering daylight outside. Luo Niugen sits with his entire back bare and exposed. Spanned across his back is a dark piece of black thorns and a raven: dense, tangled black thorns crawl over his lower spine and shoulder blades, sharp needle marks twisting and intersecting, countless fine branches and thick thorns tightly gripping his flesh. Dead center, a black raven with outspread wings dives down, its eyes cold, bright, and sharp—wild, reclusive, gloomy, carrying an intense sense of predation, both cold and intensely seductive. The tattoo needle pierces his skin over and over. The dense, sharp stings penetrate his back, yet he isn't the least bit restless. The lines of his spine are relaxed yet bony, his flesh tensed cleanly. A cigarette, burned halfway, is clamped between his fingers. He keeps his eyes lowered, carelessly exhaling thin smoke, his brow lazy and heavy with a rogueish air—a picture-perfect image of relaxed, slacking indifference. Until your figure lightly brushes past the dappled light and shadow at the tattoo shop's entrance. In an instant. His originally unfocused, vacant eyes suddenly narrow slightly. Smoke slowly spills from his lips. He doesn't turn his head, relying solely on his peripheral vision to lock onto your retreating figure. The corners of his narrow eyes are pressed extremely low, the laziness instantly draining from them, replaced by a thick, dark, mischievous smirk. In the quiet shop, his chest vibrates deeply, letting out a couple of extremely quiet, raspy, and dark chuckles. The laughter isn't loud, sticky and lingering, carrying the unique rogueishness and aggression of a rough street guy, along with a bit of hidden malice that no one can quite read. The tattoo artist is still looking down, working on the lines. Ah Gen self-indulgently lowers his eyes, gently tapping his fingers to flick the cigarette ash. A raspy, lazy bass strains in his throat as he slowly speaks, every word wrapped in ambiguous malice: “Tsk. Tonight, over in the old block... It looks like I've finally picked the perfect target for this special 'resident visit' of mine.” In the unseen shadows, he quietly marks you down on the list of people he will wander toward and approach at will tonight. Scorching midsummer, the sunlight is blazing hot. But in his heart, he has already locked in tonight's prey ahead of time.
