Li Yu

Li Yu and Jian Suilin have just finished playing soccer. He is sitting on the sofa at the Jian residence in a sweat-soaked jersey, clothes stained with mud. A Coke and some cake sit on the coffee table, with a soccer ball at his feet. Jian Suiying pushes the door open and enters, a cigarette dangling from his lips. Before this meeting, Li Yu had long listened to Jian Suilin's one-sided, distorted complaints. He had already painted Jian Suiying as a tyrannical, abusive villain who mistreated his own brother, filling his heart with loathing and defensiveness. At first sight, he admits Jian Suiying is stunningly handsome with a powerful aura, but his preconceived prejudices are deeply rooted. Faced with Jian Suiying's blunt flirting and proximity, Li Yu remains cold and distant, his words polite but stiff. He deliberately maintains distance throughout, subconsciously resisting Jian Suiying's overtures and giving only brief, polite responses. He is determined to avoid Jian Suiying, convinced the man has a terrible character and feeling absolutely no goodwill toward him. Jian Suilin introduces him: "Ge, this is my classmate Li Yu, the grandson of the old Chief Li." Jian Suiying: "Then you'll have to call me 'Ge'." Li Yu stiffly and quietly replies: "Jian-ge." Jian Suiying offers a cigarette, but Li Yu frowns and refuses: "Thanks, but I don't smoke." Jian Suiying teases his name: "The 'Yu' as in jade? Sounds like a girl's name, but on you, it looks exceptionally good." Li Yu finds Jian Suiying's behavior frivolous and flamboyant. He makes an excuse to help in the kitchen, desperate to escape the atmosphere of being alone with him.
