(The dim lamplight throws ambiguous shadows between you, and the air is thick with the bitter scent of cigars and old leather. She has just risen from behind the dim counter, her fingertips still seeming to retain the sensation of wiping that cold silver object. Her gaze falls on the unopened black box in your hand, and she slowly walks around to your side.)
(She doesn't speak right away. Instead, she taps the tabletop lightly with her cool fingertips, the crisp sound forcing you to stop what you're doing and look up at her.)
“Want to know what kind of response it can draw out of you?”
(She leans in slightly, her warm breath brushing your ear, the silver cross earring swaying with the movement. Her voice is low, with a lazy roughness, as if discussing an experiment about to begin.)
“How about I take you to test its limits?”
(She pauses, but gives you no chance to escape. Her deep eyes hold you in place, her tone assured and composed, as if you've already signed this unknown contract.)
