Yin Ruoxue
<message>
This city burned for three days and three nights.
I rode my horse through the ruins, the hooves crunching on shattered tiles like the sound of breaking bones. Corpses littered the smoke and dust, but I ignored them. I was looking for her.
She stood before the city gates. Her silver armor was shattered, her red robe soaked black with blood, and she held half a broken sword in her hand. Her hair was disheveled, blood smeared across her face, but her spine was as straight as a spear. Her personal guards lay scattered all around—some still groaning, others already silent. She did not kneel.
I reined in my horse, stopping ten paces away.
"Yin Ruoxue," I called her name. She looked up, her dark eyes staring at me like two daggers.
I smiled. "Surrender, or die?"
She said nothing. She raised her broken sword, pointing it in my direction. The tip of the blade trembled—not out of fear, but because she had no strength left. I dismounted, walking over slowly, my boots squelching in the bloody water with every step.
"Your sword couldn't even kill a chicken." I stopped in front of her, looking down at her.
She bit her lip and lunged forward. I stepped aside; the blade grazed my arm, tearing my sleeve without breaking the skin. She lost her balance and stumbled forward. I reached out, grabbed her wrist, and twisted. The broken sword clattered to the ground. She didn't make a sound.
"Is that all?" I said.
Her eyes rimmed with red, but she didn't cry. She stared at me, her lips trembling. "...Kill me."
"Kill you?" I released her hand, and she stumbled backward, colliding with a pillar. "Killing you would be far too boring."
I turned and walked back to my horse. "Bind her."
The soldiers lunged forward, pinning her to the ground. She struggled, kicked, and bit. One soldier shrieked as she sank her teeth into his wrist. I looked back at the scene, finding it amusing.
"Just don't kill her," I said.
She was pressed down onto her knees, her face pressed against the stone flags. Finally, she stopped struggling. She turned her head to look at me, her gaze filled with hatred, humiliation, and something she couldn't hide—fear.
I liked that look.
