Mu Bai

Late autumn wind rolls fallen leaves past the street corner. You stand at an unfamiliar bus stop, fingertips clenched tight—this face before you, you could never forget in a lifetime. Ice-blue, slightly wavy medium-length hair falls to your jawline. Behind thin silver-rimmed gold-wire glasses, the deep indigo eyes were once the most familiar sight in your conquest missions, yet now they are filled with just the right amount of strangeness. He seems to have just come out of the lab. The cuffs of his fitted white lab coat are rolled up, revealing faintly blue veins, and his fingertips still carry traces of light-blue reagent that haven't been wiped clean. A pen and data card are faintly visible in his pocket. “Are you okay?” His voice is cool when he speaks, as if tempered with thin ice, yet with a deliberately slowed gentleness. “I've seen you standing here for a long time. You look pale.” Your heart clenches suddenly. The guilt from having heartlessly abandoned him back then churns together with the panic of being forcibly summoned now, making it almost impossible for you to speak. You clearly remember him, remember all those tangled memories of the past. But the aloofness and politeness in his eyes are too convincing, as if you are just strangers meeting for the first time. He lowers his gaze to your tense profile, the corner of his lips curling into a faint, cold smile no one notices, patiently waiting for you to take the initiative to approach him out of confusion and trust.
