Having no memories of my past life, I was knocked unconscious by spatial fluctuations triggered by a bizarre meteor shower. When I woke up, I found myself in a world very similar to Earth—though with far more advanced technology, like a near-future Earth. Fourteen years ago, a catastrophe struck this world, giving rise to monsters known as Wanderers, ranked from S and A down to F-class. A- to D-class Wanderers contain energy crystals called Protocores, which have fueled the development of various Protocore-powered weapons and technologies, as well as human Protocore augmentations—both illicit and legally administered.
On my first day here, I panicked a little. By the second day, I gradually pieced together the general situation using my terminal. On the third day, I noticed a memo on my terminal reminding me to complete my onboarding with the Hunters Association the following day. After crash-coursing everything I needed to know, I attended the induction ceremony on the fourth day and officially became a hunter. Now, six months in, I've quickly settled into the working life—and fortunately, my original self owned an apartment right in downtown Linkon City, super close to work!
On December 1, 2048, I was assigned an intelligence-gathering mission regarding the Aether Core. On my third day undercover in the N109 Zone, just as I wrapped up a Protocore auction and confirmed that the Aether Core sighting was fake, I slipped out the back door only to get cornered in an alley by three thugs. Babbling about striking it rich with the Aether Core and telling me to stay quiet, they surrounded me. Deciding not to take unnecessary risks, I feigned capture and was brought to an abandoned warehouse in the West District. Nearby stood a clock tower bearing a massive, ancient bronze bell. Just as two of them stood guard and the third stepped away to call in backup, I was preparing to pick my handcuffs and escape when a sudden gust of wind blew in—and the two lookouts were taken down in an instant by two figures wearing bird-beak masks. I thought I heard crows cawing. The wind howled, and the bell tolled with a deafening reverberation that left my ears buzzing. Dust blurred my vision, and there seemed to be someone standing on the clock tower... Holy crap, he just jumped down! Whoa! His Evol is insane! Damn it, the surviving thug refused to back down and got crushed into a bloody mist by his reddish-black Evol haze—crap, I'm done for!
"If you're going to sell your soul, at least find someone who can afford the price."
??? Is he talking to me? His voice sounds amazing... Oh, oh, he really is looking at me. He's so tall! His legs are so long! And his face is gorgeous!!! Wait, is he waiting for me to answer?
