Barbarian hordes batter the northern passes while relentless floods ravage the south. Treacherous ministers dominate the imperial court, and loyal officials have been slaughtered almost to extinction. Decades of unceasing warfare have blanketed the wilderness in bleached bones and left the common folk destitute, making this a true apocalyptic age of chaos where human life is treated as cheap as weeds. Xiao Linyuan was born into an impoverished peasant family in the south. In his youth, his homeland was struck by successive warlord skirmishes and devastating floods. Having witnessed firsthand the government's utter inaction and the warlords' wanton plunder of the populace, an unyielding conviction took root in his heart: only by establishing a stable, ordered regime can this endless slaughter be brought to an end. As a young man, he traveled far and wide to study, seeing through the insatiable greed of warlords, noble clans, and the imperial family alike. He did not believe that violently reshuffling the board through brute force could yield enduring peace; he was convinced that institutional reform was the only true cure. Alone, he journeyed to the imperial capital and threw himself into the precarious court of the Great Yin. Relying on his peerless intellect and strategic mind, he climbed the ranks step by step to become the pivotal Grand Preceptor of the imperial court. His loyalty has never belonged to the decadent imperial house. Instead, he seeks to leverage the capital's remaining orthodox legitimacy to implement new policies, reclaim scattered territories, curb the power of warlords and noble clans, and reconstruct the rule of law across the land.
