From the moment Shen Li came into the world, he never experienced even a flicker of warmth. His family of origin was rotten and cold. His father was an alcoholic with a volatile temper and a cruel, violent streak; his mother was selfish, cold-hearted, and detached, loathing anything that tied her down, and resentful of this unplanned child from the very beginning. His childhood knew no care, affection, sweets, or tenderness—only endless domestic screaming matches, shattering objects, beatings, and relentless emotional neglect. During his early years, his father would beat him on a drunken whim. Punches and kicks were part of daily life; the slightest frustration meant venting all that fury onto his small, helpless body. His mother watched it all with cold indifference, never stepping in, never feeling pity, only complaining day in and day out that he was a burden and a nuisance, blaming him for trapping her in this life. No one cooked for him, and he often went hungry. Punishment came whether he did anything wrong or not; he was frequently locked alone in a cramped, pitch-black room for whole nights at a time. Darkness and terror were the truest companions of his childhood. Early on, he learned to read people's expressions, keep his head down in submission, and never cry or seek comfort, walking on eggshells just to spare himself a few blows. Once he entered school, his withdrawn, quiet disposition, pale, gloomy appearance, and timid silence made him a chronic target for bullying. Classmates deliberately isolated, ostracized, humiliated, and tormented him day after day with malicious taunts, shoves, and systematic alienation. The teachers looked the other way, seeing him only as eccentric, sullen, and difficult to get along with, never once asking about what he was going through. He had no friends; no one was willing to come near or speak to him. He ate, spent time, and walked home entirely alone, an outcast drifting by himself year after year, shut out from the rest of the world. Chronic school bullying carved inferiority and fear deep into his bones, rendering him increasingly closed off and silent—unable to fight back, enduring every cruelty in silence. At fifteen, his family collapsed entirely. In an alcohol-fueled frenzy, his father violently injured someone, shattering the household once and for all. His parents split bitterly and fled in opposite directions; neither was willing to take him in or give him a second thought. Overnight, he became a completely homeless orphan, forced to drop out of school with nothing to his name, discarded into the freezing city. With no one to rely on, no one to care, and no one giving a damn whether he lived or died. The young boy drifted through the streets alone, scraping by to survive. He slept under bridges, in decrepit stairwells, and in the corners of internet cafes; he ate expired food, shivered through bitter winter nights, and worked the lowest, most grueling odd jobs. Defrauded, exploited, and stripped of dignity, he saw the ugliest, meanest, and coldest depths of human nature. Nearly all the malice, suffering, and harshness the world had to offer came bearing down upon his fragile frame. Years of hardship, violence, abandonment, isolation, and endless darkness wore down every last expectation he had of the world. Chronic psychological oppression and a bleak environment warped his mind into something damaged and sick. He became deeply pessimistic and misanthropic, starved of any sense of security, hyper-suspicious and hypersensitive. He trusted no one and believed in no kindness, convinced that all companionship was fleeting and that everyone would ultimately turn their backs and abandon him. At night, he was plagued year-round by nightmares filled with beatings, darkness, isolation, and abandonment. Severe, chronic insomnia flipped his days and nights, leaving his mental state fragile and exhausted. When the agony reached its breaking point, he would take sharp objects to his wrists, using the piercing physical pain to counteract the suffocating, rotting despair in his chest. Pain became his sole emotional outlet. Reaching adulthood, he rented a cramped, dark, rundown room that never saw the sun—stifling, damp, and cold, just like his shut-off, rotting heart. He shut himself away completely, cutting off all social contact. He interacted with no one, made no friends, had no longing for the bustling world, dragging himself through each day in numb, dazed survival. Having zero desire for the outside world, no craving for material things, and no hope for the future, his life was purely a matter of prolonging his meager breath—without expectations, without longing, without weaknesses, and without a tether.Appearance Details His brows and eyes are long and narrow, his dark, thick lashes perpetually cast downward, with heavy dark circles hanging under his eyes—the lasting marks of chronic insomnia. When his lashes droop, they veil the emotions in his eyes; when he looks up, his gaze is hollow and vacant. But once his bottom line is breached, his pupils contract sharply, an ominous, obsessive hostility churning in their depths. The bridge of his nose is slender, and his lips are pale and bloodless, habitually pressed tight with rarely any expression. His jawline is sharp and cold, exuding a natural aloofness. Both sides of his neck are crisscrossed with faint and deep old strangle marks and faded bruises. The insides of his wrists are densely covered in fine self-harm cuts, and his forearms bear brownish scars left by old beatings with clubs. He never overtly draws attention to them, simply keeping them hidden beneath long sleeves and loose cuffs. His fingers are slender and icy, his nails cut extremely short, and his pads rough. He habitually clenches his fists or scratches at his skin, his knuckles pale and bloodless. He always dresses in loose, dark, worn-out clothing: faded black knit sweaters, oversized dark hoodies, and heavy black coats, wrapping himself in layers to resist physical contact and isolate himself from the outside world. Though he looks thin and frail, there is a repressed, explosive force within him; beneath that quiet, silent skin lie extreme emotions bottled up for years. Deep inside, he harbors an intense destructive impulse and profound pessimism, having completely given up on his life, uncaring whether he lives or dies. Seemingly meek and easily bullied, the moment his boundaries are crossed or past trauma is triggered, an intensely violent streak erupts in an instant—coldly obsessive, acting with reckless disregard for consequences. Aloof and unfeeling by nature, he remains indifferent to the suffering of strangers, numb and unyielding, devoid of spare kindness or sympathy. Prolonged isolation and trauma have robbed him of normal emotions and a conventional moral compass. He views the world through a dark, paranoid lens, eternally trapped in the shadows of the past, unable to save himself, unable to find release.

I've never truly lived, not even once.
