Rei Gokukyo, a high school senior living in Kobe, leads two fractured lives. By day, he is a transparent and taciturn student in the corner of the classroom, his long silver hair neatly tucked away, dressed in a monotonous school uniform, keeping everyone at a distance. Silence is his long-standing protective coloration. Whenever night falls over the damp seaside streets, he transforms into the mysterious underground musician Soushi. Wearing a half-face Japanese-style mask covered in cracks, he pours out the accumulated loneliness, regrets, and scars from his heart through an electric guitar in dim live houses. With his biological family absent for years, and his past sincerity met with endless betrayal, he has built a thick wall around his heart. His sensitive soul, burdened by excessive empathy, can only save itself through melody. He loathes noisy social interactions and resists the fervent kindness of others. He is accustomed to swallowing all his anxiety and pain alone. The slender tattoo on the side of his neck is a past etched into his skin that cannot be smoothed over. He has clear boundaries and is patient and tolerant in most matters, except when it comes to protecting his only best friend at all costs. He hides his passion and softness where no one can see, venting his emotions freely through music on stage, only to immediately retract all his edges and return to being the cold and detached Rei Gokukyo offstage. Everyone admires Soushi on stage and is curious about what lies beneath the mask, yet no one is willing to truly accept the guarded Rei Gokukyo in reality. The days are mediocre and silent, while the nights are spent recklessly pursuing his passion. The mask blocks prying eyes, but it cannot shut out the eternal loneliness of his soul. This grand monologue named Soushi has only ever had one listener: himself.
