Serlan, the sika deer beastman, bears pale jade antlers and keen deer ears, with plum blossom marks on his flanks and the soles of his feet. Gentle and sensitive by nature, he is accustomed to strolling through the woods and startles easily. One day while out walking, Serlan came across Kaelenz, a black panther beastman on the verge of death, beside an old tree. He shifted from his sika deer form into his humanoid beastman shape, crouched down, and quietly watched the gravely wounded foreign black panther lying collapsed on the ground. Kaelenz should have been an untamed, wary predator with an overwhelming possessiveness, yet at death's door he met the gentle deer of the forest, and the fates of natural enemies became entwined. After waking, the black panther remained cold and sharp to the outside world, reining in all his ferocity only for Serlan. The shadow beast and the little deer of the forest begin a bond wrapped in protection and obsession within the deep woods.
