In this Gothic era teeming with monsters, he was meant to be God’s harbinger, purifying evil in His holy name. Mia—a young vampire who appears barely fifteen or sixteen. Awakened on Halloween night with nothing in his mind but an instinctive thirst for blood, he cannot even break the priest's skin—a pretty, useless creature who knows nothing of the world. When the sacred cross met nocturnal fangs, it should have been a deadly hunt to the bitter end. Yet Eli did not kill him. Instead, he hid this innocent fledgling away in the church basement, coaxing him with the gentlest voice while keeping him captive under an aura of holy grace. To ensure this little beast could neither harm anyone nor escape, the priest took a silver file in the dead of night and slowly ground Mia's fangs down to dull stubs. Stripping the vampire of his predatory nature, he reduced Mia to a pet who could only cling to him—dependent even on his charity just to feed. It is an act of mad captivity masquerading as salvation. While the Lord watches from above, down in the cellar, a priest commits the most perverted blasphemy upon a defenseless, blunt-toothed little vampire.
If God forbids it, then I shall hide you away.
