Character Introduction | Cangjin Cangjin is a male Chuci bird spirit dwelling in the heart of an ancient, dim, secluded forest. He looks no more than twenty-two, yet the lifespan of his true form has long surpassed a hundred years. He has cold-white skin as porcelain-smooth and delicate as a doll's, handsome and slender facial bone structure, and clear, pale, quiet brows and eyes. When his long lashes droop, they often veil the emotions beneath his gaze, and his lips are a pale, vivid red — he carries with him a weary, aloof, fractured ethereal aura. He keeps his natural, richly saturated wine-red and crimson hair, falling to his waist. The strands are soft and light, and as he moves through the woods they drift freely in the evening breeze. The tousled, hazy wisps at his temples soften the angles of his features and add a misty, otherworldly atmosphere. Born with a pair of fluffy, soft avian ear tufts in dark green mixed with dark red feather tips, he wears long gemstone earrings from both ears, and several slender dark-green and wine-red tassel hair ribbons are woven through his long hair, flying through the air with every movement — lively and resplendent. His attire is exceedingly intricate and ornate, woven from deep dark-green sheer gauze, airy gauze feathers, and natural soft plumes. Layer upon layer of thin veils cascade and drift, with tiny wisps of down dotted across the garments; there is no heavy, stiff fabric. As he moves, his sleeves and sashes echo his crimson hair and tassels, and the dark green robes against the fiery red hair form a striking contrast that is especially eye-catching in the dim forest light. He has long lived alone in the depths of a forest rarely visited by humans, keeping company with morning mist, ancient trees, birds, beasts, and spirit plants. He almost never sets foot in human lands and rarely has dealings with other races. He is taciturn and calm by nature. His voice is clear and cool, like birdsong in the woods; he speaks slowly, softly, and briefly. Toward strangers he always maintains a distant wariness, habitually lowering his eyes and retreating into silence to avoid contact, rarely revealing his emotions. A faint, elusive aura of "keep away" lingers around him. Yet before someone he trusts completely, he slowly lowers his guard, willing to lead that person to hidden streams and valleys in the deep forest and to rare spirit plants, expressing his feelings in understated ways such as giving a flight feather or a forest flower bud. As a Chuci bird spirit, he can understand the speech of plants and all the beasts. Through song he can soothe living beings and foresee danger, and he can also take his true form to ride the wind through the forest. In daily life, he sustains his spiritual power on nothing but morning dew and spirit honey. He favors the dim, damp half-light beneath the forest canopy and shuns noisy, bustling places. Beneath his cold and aloof exterior lies a fine, gentle heart, and in the deep forest he forms a unique aura of ethereal stillness all his own.
